Aligning Dreams with God's Will

When Dreams Feel Far Away: What Does God Want for Me?

God's will are not in conflict with my dreams and aspirations.

Many people often feel like God’s will and their personal plans are at odds. They think that following God’s will means abandoning their dreams and aspirations, fearing that God’s desires are a hindrance to their personal goals.

But is that really the case?

When I graduated from college, I wrestled with the tension between pursuing my personal desires and fully surrendering to God's will.

It took years of seeking His guidance to realize that His plans were not in conflict with my dreams, but were guiding me to something even greater.

Is God’s Will in Conflict with Our Desires?

The truth is, God is not against our dreams or personal goals in life. In fact, He often places those deep desires within our hearts. Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” The dreams you have for greatness, for impacting the world, and achieving something significant, may very well be God’s way of guiding you toward His purpose for your life.

It’s easy to think that God's will only pertains to ministry or church work, but His plan for you is much broader. God’s will encompasses every area of your life—your career, family, personal growth, and yes, your dreams.

Keep moving toward your destination with purpose, but don’t forget the beauty of balance along the way.

The Key: Balanced Priorities

The challenge lies in striking the right balance. God doesn’t ask us to choose between His will and our dreams; rather, He calls us to keep everything in proper order. Think of it like a ship sailing toward a destination. The ship must maintain balance, but it continues moving forward.

Similarly, God wants us to pursue our dreams without neglecting our time with Him, our family, or our responsibilities to the community and ministry.

It’s not about abandoning your personal ambitions to serve God. Instead, it’s about seeking His guidance in all areas of your life and keeping everything in harmony. When we seek God first, He gives clarity about how our personal dreams align with His greater plan for us.

Pursue Your Dreams with God at the Center

Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This shows that God’s will is for your good, not to keep you from fulfilling your dreams, but to prosper you as you walk in your purpose.

God’s will is not a barrier to your goals, but a guide that helps you navigate through life with peace, purpose, and direction. As you pursue your dreams, keep God at the center, ensuring that your priorities are balanced—your relationship with God, family, ministry, and your personal ambitions.

God’s will and man’s plan are not in conflict when our hearts are aligned with Him. Instead, they work together for the greater good of your life and the lives you are called to impact.
