Why Christmas Still Matters: The Promise That Changed Everything

Christmas is often wrapped in lights, songs, and traditions, but beneath the celebration lies a profound truth most people miss.
Christmas was not sentimental.
It was legal.
It was intentional.
And it was necessary.

To understand the true power and purpose of Christmas, we have to go back, not to Bethlehem, but to Genesis.
In Genesis 1:26, God makes a declaration that governs everything that happens afterward:
“Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness, and let them have dominion over the earth.”
Notice the language.
God did not say, “Let Us rule the earth.”
He said, “Let them have dominion.”
At that moment, God made a bold decision: He gave authority over the earth to humanity.
That means what happens on this planet is not primarily God’s responsibility, it is man’s. Shocking?
Yes. But it explains everything.
From that moment on, earth became a human-dominated territory.
God did not take it back. He stood by His word.
Isaiah 6:3 describes God as holy, holy, holy which also means faithful, consistent, and without hidden motives. God does not revise His promises. He keeps them.
Genesis 3:15 - Christmas was announced the moment God promised a body.
God turns to the enemy and declares what sounds like a warning but is actually a strategy:
“The seed of the woman will crush your head.”
This wasn’t poetic language. This was legal prophecy.
God was essentially saying:
“I can’t come right now, I don’t have a body. But the woman you used will provide one for Me.”
Why God Became Human
God did not become human because He wanted to feel close to us.
He became human because He had to.
Without a body:
He could not function legally on earth
He could not die
He could not reclaim authority
Christmas happened because God refused to break His word.
His holiness through His word demanded consistency. His integrity required a body.
Why Christmas Had to Happen
Christmas happened because God needed a body. And He still works through willing ones today.
That’s not just a holiday message.That’s a purpose reminder.
Christmas is the proof that God keeps His word.
He promised dominion to humanity, and He honored that promise.
Christmas is not about God visiting earth. It’s about God entering earth legally through a body.
God didn’t come to take over the earth. He came to give it back to us.
Christmas was not a rescue mission driven by emotion.
It was a fulfillment of a promise governed by law.
Why Christmas Still Matters
To understand the true meaning of Christmas, we must understand purpose. From the beginning, God established a law: only spirits with bodies can function legally on earth. When God gave dominion to humanity in Genesis, He never revoked it, even after humanity fell.
That’s why Christmas matters.
God did not come as a spirit. He came with a body.
The purpose of Christmas is not tradition, it is restoration.
Christmas is the story of:
Purpose restored – what was lost through disobedience was reclaimed through obedience. The plan for redemption was already in place before the fall ever happened.
Authority reclaimed – not emotionally, but legally.
Humanity repositioned – restored to its original assignment on earth.
This is why Christmas is more than a celebration, it is a reminder of identity, authority, and original purpose.
If this Christmas reflection stirred something in you, questions about purpose, identity, or why you’re really here, you’re not alone!
I write for those moments.
You can explore more reflections on purpose, faith, and intentional living through my books and resources, or journey with me inside Kairos, where we talk about timing, purpose, and living aligned, one step at a time.
This season isn’t just about remembering what happened. It’s about rediscovering why you’re here.
